Safe, healthy, and thriving children are central to building strong families, communities, and societies. We all have a unique role to play—teachers, nurses, parents, neighbors, social workers, and police—in ensuring the promise and opportunity of growing up healthy, finishing school, and becoming successful and non-violent parents and partners.

Unfortunately, children’s exposure to violence—both as witnesses and as victims—is robbing more than half of the nation’s children of that promise. The overwhelming pervasiveness of bullying, violence, and trauma experienced by children is having deep, long-lasting and, at times, tragic consequences. Among other things, it can affect a young person’s life for decades, her ability to succeed in school, his likelihood of becoming a victim or perpetrator of violence, and overall, their possibility to stay on the right track.
